Zaka district faces a deep digital divide, leaving its rural youth disconnected from the vital opportunities and resources they need to thrive in today’s digital age. Can we allow our youth to be locked out of the digital world? Not a chance! We are rising to the occasion, closing the digital divide, and unlocking a bright, connected future for them.
To tackle this challenge, we have launched a local network designed to bridge the digital divide for youth in Zaka district. This network serves as a digital hub, providing free, disability-inclusive access to digital information and opportunities for up to 20,000 young people within a 20km radius. In collaboration with cross-sectoral partners, we upload educational content, job opportunities, scholarships, entrepreneurship resources, public notices, and more to the local server in multiple formats – text, video, audio-visuals, and pictorial – ensuring inclusivity for all.
What is even better? Youth only need a mobile phone with a SIM card to access this wealth of information – no data required! Every opportunity is carefully verified before uploading to ensure it is safe and reliable for users.
This digital hub is more than just a tech initiative – it is a game-changing model for bridging the digital divide and empowering youth in underserved regions. Not only does it create pathways for learning and economic activity, but it also offers a scalable framework that can be replicated in other communities. Through this innovative approach, Zaka’s youth gain the tools they need to thrive in the digital world.
